Sarajevo Airport and Međugorje are in the same country, but they are not connected by a simple airport shuttle. Most journeys follow the road through Konjic, Jablanica and Mostar before continuing into western Herzegovina.

The drive normally takes about two and a half to three hours without a long stop. Traffic around Sarajevo and Mostar, road works, weather and busy pilgrimage dates can add time, so it is better to plan around your flight than around an optimistic map estimate.

What a private transfer solves

A pre-arranged driver meets you after baggage collection and takes you to your hotel, guesthouse or pilgrimage house in Međugorje. There is no station change and no need to carry luggage across Sarajevo.

Send the flight number, scheduled landing time, passenger count, approximate luggage and accommodation address. The flight number lets the driver follow a delay more accurately than an estimated terminal exit time.

Is there a direct airport bus or train?

Bus

There is generally no single public bus that collects passengers outside Sarajevo Airport and continues directly to Međugorje. First reach Sarajevo, then identify the correct coach station and onward departure. Sarajevo Airport publishes current information for its airport–city bus connection.

This can suit a solo traveller landing early, with light luggage and a confirmed onward ticket. It is less comfortable when a flight arrives late or the next service leaves from another part of the city.

Train

The airport has no railway station and Međugorje has no passenger station. A train can form the scenic middle part of the trip, but transfers are required at both ends. Check the current timetable directly with the Railways of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Driving the route after a flight

A rental car gives you freedom to visit Konjic, Mostar, Kravica or wineries later in the trip. The usual road follows the Neretva valley and includes long mountain sections with bends.

Allow extra time for summer traffic, rain, fog, road works and a rest stop. If you land late, decide honestly whether you want your first drive on this route to be at night. Confirm parking with your accommodation and never leave passports or visible luggage in the car.

Can you stop in Mostar or at Kravica?

Mostar is the most natural stop: stretch your legs near the Old Bridge, have lunch or meet another guest before continuing. A short walk is often better than a full sightseeing programme after a flight.

Kravica Waterfalls can be added after a morning arrival if daylight and opening hours allow, but it creates a detour and needs time for entry and walking. For a relaxed visit, leave Kravica for a separate day and consider the Kravica Waterfalls and winery tour.
